About
The Victoria Conservatory of Music is one of the largest and most respected community music schools in Canada. Founded in 1964, VCM is a non-profit organization and charity located in Victoria, British Columbia and is home to more than 120 faculty members and 4,500 students of all ages and abilities. Throughout our history, our goal has remained the same: To enrich lives through music in a thriving community accessible to all.
Today our robust and diverse music education programming means our youngest "student" is often a newborn enrolled in our world renowned Music Therapy program and our oldest can be in their 90s learning to play an instrument for the first time. At the same time, other students are graduating from our 2 year post-secondary diploma programs while our advanced students are winning national awards and on their way to worldwide recognition joining many of our acclaimed Alumni. Our heritage Alix Goolden Performance Hall, built in the 1890s, is an integral and beloved part of Victoria's arts scene. In addition to musical offerings at our heritage building in downtown Victoria, the school extends its music outreach program into the community, bringing group music classes and instruction to over 30 different Victoria-area satellite locations, including underserved public elementary schools.
