There are an estimated 258 million children and adolescents around the world who are out of school. Out-of-school children face many obstacles to getting into the classroom. We know that poor, rural girls are the least likely to be in school. Yet, even children who are in school are not learning. Globally, there are about 617 million children and youth who do not meet minimum proficiency levels in reading and math. We are working hard to change this.
