WaterAid Canada is determined to make clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene accessible for everyone, everywhere. In collaboration with local communities, we construct water taps, toilet blocks, handwashing stations and other vital WASH infrastructure using technologies that are low-cost, context-specific, and easily maintained.

We also work with local partners and communities to implement sustainable and inclusive hygiene behavior change programs that help reduce preventable diseases, improve maternal and child health outcomes, and create cleaner, safer environments.

  • Good health and well-being

    By ensuring clean water and sanitation in healthcare facilities, schools, and households, WaterAid Canada's work directly reduces preventable deaths, protects maternal and child health, and supports healthier communities.

  • Quality education

    Young girls often miss school due to time spent collecting water or the lack of adequate toilets and safe spaces to manage their periods. With access to clean water and gender-inclusive sanitation facilities in schools, girls can stay in school and reach their full potential through education.

  • Gender equality

    Women and girls bear the disproportionate burden of water collection and are most affected by inadequate sanitation, resulting in a gap in education, income, and opportunity. With clean water close to home, women are empowered to start businesses and participate in leadership roles, strengthening women’s voices in community decision-making.

  • Clean water and sanitation

    WaterAid Canada works with local partners to set up practical and sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene projects that meet their needs. The installation of clean water systems and sanitation facilities, such as taps and toilets, is always followed by hygiene behaviour education, ensuring the health benefits of clean water and decent toilets are maximized.

  • Climate action

    WaterAid Canada integrates climate resilience into all programming, recognizing that water scarcity, flooding, and drought threaten progress on SDG6. WaterAid is helping build resilient communities by helping communities adapt and prepare for future water uncertainty with climate-responsive water management policies and systems.
