UN Sustainable Development Goals

  • No poverty

WoodGreen is Toronto’s largest non-municipal affordable housing provider. We offer seniors, newcomers, youth, individuals with disabilities, psychiatric survivors and people with a long history of homelessness the opportunity to thrive in safe, affordable housing. WoodGreen owns and manages 15 housing sites in the city, where residents have access to the full basket of our supportive services.

  • Zero hunger

Meals on Wheels increases food security and supports independent living for seniors and adults with disabilities. Our volunteers deliver hot and frozen meals, provide at-home security and wellness checks and facilitate access to community services.  WoodGreen’s Food Bank and Pet Food Bank program distributes non-perishable food items and pet food on a weekly basis.

  • Good health and well-being

WoodGreen offers an integrated approach to physical and mental health services, working alongside primary care and health agency partners. We support clients with complex health needs and provide walk-in and longer-term counselling to address mental health and substance use issues.

  • Quality education

Our VFX training program is designed to give Black youth a competitive edge as they launch careers in digital compositing. Over 23 weeks, participants gain the knowledge and experience necessary to find post-production work. Training includes a six-week paid internship. WoodGreen provides high quality child care and enriched learning opportunities at various centres throughout Toronto. Our Registered Early Childhood Educators and Early Childhood Assistants are committed to continuous learning, and our curriculum is designed to respond to each child’s individual needs.

  • Gender equality

Launched by WoodGreen in 2004, Homeward Bound is an innovative program that supports homeless or inadequately housed single mothers to earn college diplomas, start careers and achieve financial self-sufficiency. Unique in Canada, this four-year education and employment program provides intensive wrap-around services that eliminate the barriers that single mothers face in trying to move out of poverty.

  • Decent work and economic growth

We work with job seekers to secure long-term employment through individual counselling, skill-building workshops, specialized training, placement strategies and partnerships with employers. We offer settlement services for immigrants and refugees, both individuals and families, including assistance with government services, English Language classes, citizenship test preparation and support in accessing health care, education, housing and employment.

  • Reduced inequalities

Our team assists individuals with disabilities, along with caregivers, with resources to find affordable housing, financial support, health services, recreational activities and opportunities to engage more fully in their communities.

  • Sustainable cities and communities

WoodGreen Financial Empowerment Services offer workshops, one-on-one counselling and support for low-income individuals and families experiencing financial challenges. We provide free tax clinics, budgeting workshops, debt management and other resources designed to improve financial literacy and money management skills and help clients reach their financial goals.
